Dude! The 90's are so OVER!
So, wash off the Polo cologne, throw away the Zima and ditch the freakin' neon, man.
I thought this picture was pretty slick. And, to be perfectly honest, I didn't really do anything drastic in Photoshop. I just fiddled with my usual lighting levels and didn't adjust the colors one bit.
The only thing I have a problem with in this picture is that the weird, neon green insect is just a hair out of focus (its head is a bit blurry). But, I'm more into those weird colors and how my flash just brought them all out.
Now, I'm going to ask you all for a favor. It's just a little favor. In fact, you probably won't even think you're doing anything.
Nonetheless, please do me a favor and tell me what you think of this shot. Be as kind or as harsh and as funny or as serious, as you wish. All I ask is that you be honest. Just critique this shot until I'm either walking funny, or I run away screaming to hide in a damp, dark cave somewhere in West Virginia (somewhere close to the H.K. Shivelmeisterkovski compound because Holly's nice and she would take me to the Waffle House).
Other than that, as you can see, this is yet another late night for me. But, that will be fixed in a matter of minutes.
Anyway, share those criticisms.

Okay my opinion. The pros- yes the colors are really cool. I'm also glad to know you're man enough to use a flash. That's a definite pro. The detail on the wings is good. The cons- The both subjects are too out of focus. In order for it to be a 'wow' shot (like some of the others from this set) you'd either need the have the bug be bigger so the eye lock in on the subject right away. I'd say at least 2/3rds of the frame. I try to work by the rule of thirds, but I also like to break rules too. Or the other thing would be to have both the flower and bug in sharper focus so the flower is the subject and the bug just a direct object. Not to harsh I hope. Also the bright light bug is a little distracting just because of the black background and the fact it's contrasting with the purple. If it were just black that would probably work. But with the purple it's a bit too harsh. Hard to explain. Anyhow, hope that wasn't too harsh, but you asked for it. I do think the other pictures of the purple flower were 'wow'.
Keep 'em coming.

I need Kleenex...
Actually, that was a fine critique, and if that's what you think of as harsh, I like it.
Anyway, I was originally just shooting up this flower when I happened upon this weird bug. Unfortunately, in my zeal to capture it, it turned out that the bug was over lit, and the flower was under lit. And, before I could make any adjustments, the little bastard flew away.
Nah, never know what one person's idea of harsh might be relative to your own.
I'm still trying to get over the Zima reference. Some girl who's anorexic by day got all bulimic on me one night a few weeks ago. I smelled of Zima the whole walk home. Ewww. At least her dude gave me a $50 so I could replace my clothing.

wow, what a gross story.
zima was the first alcoholic beverage i had when in 7th grade my friends and i pretended to befriend lindsey p. so that we could play at her house and steal zima from her dad's garage stash...to prove to the boys that we were cool enough to hang out on the stoop and watch them play basketball...
life was so simple then.
i don't dislike the picture, per say...but it's not one i want to look at over and over...the colors are too harsh for me and i think the black really contributes to that. i like the closeup on the bug though...
Sheesh... Everyone's a critic.
Oh wait. I asked for that, didn't I?
Thanks Raitch! I like the colors. In fact, I think I'm going to have my bedroom done in those colors. I'll also have a BIG velvet Elvis and a disco ball.
Sleep will most likely come in fits.
Other than that, Devi, can I come into your work and get my Zima-bulimia on? Do you sell pickled eggs there too? I only hang out in bars with pickled eggs and video poker.
a disco ball would do wonders...
i think living in minnesota has ruined purple for me forever - it could just be that.
meanwhile, i adore you and it doesn't get much better than that...
(unless there are pickled eggs)
Zima is gross. Picture is cool. I don't critique well because you rock and I suck. There ya go... And, I am the twin sis you never had here to cheer you on! I am good that!
be well,
Dawn
Oh dear lord no I do not work in a bar. That would kill me. The Zima-bulima incident happened on the way home from Summerfest on a bus that had to go down Water St. And Water St...Brady St... North Ave...Summerfest... Third of July... 2:45 am... not a good mix. Makes me want to barf just thinking about it.
This was the forth time I've been puked on by a stranger too. So I'm getting kind of used to it.
So you're going for a kind of Joker's Wild theme? I want a Velvet William Shatner really bad.
I've got the Maple Syrup on stand-by... :)
